Kyiv: Ukrainian drones targeted a fuel and energy facility in Russia's Kaluga region overnight, according to a source within Ukraine's military intelligence. The operation marks another escalation in cross-border attacks on critical infrastructure between the two countries.

The Ukrainian Defence Intelligence source confirmed the strike, identifying the target as an oil depot owned by Kaluganefteprodukt JSC, which reportedly supports Russia's military activities in Ukraine. The attack resulted in a fire at an industrial facility, as acknowledged by the governor of Kaluga. He stated that air defense systems had intercepted eight drones in the region, but the incident caused a blaze at an "industrial enterprise."

Unverified videos circulating on social media captured scenes of tracer ammunition streaking through the night sky, followed by flames rising near two industrial chimneys.

This incident comes amid an intensification of hostilities between Kyiv and Moscow. Both nations have ramped up cross-border drone and missile strikes, further straining efforts for de-escalation.

Meanwhile, in Ukraine's Kharkiv region, a Russian missile strike wounded 19 people in the center of Ukraine's second-largest city, underscoring the ongoing toll of the conflict.

Russian President Vladimir Putin recently boasted about the deployment of a new mid-range missile system, the Oreshnik, during a strike on Ukraine's city of Dnipro. He described the attack as a successful combat test and vowed to conduct further trials of advanced weaponry.

The back-and-forth assaults on strategic infrastructure, including energy facilities, reflect the deepening hostilities in the prolonged conflict, with both nations showing no signs of backing down.
